A Day in Broward County

As a regional service provider, Broward County provides an array of services and programs to its 1.8 million residents. Whether you live in one of Broward County 's 31 municipalities or reside in one of the County's scattered unincorporated neighborhoods, the services provided by the nine-member Board of County Commissioners touch your life in some way. During any given day, Broward County agencies are working to improve the quality of life for its residents and visitors:

  • 340 animals are sheltered and cared for at two County-run shelters
  • 482 animal licenses are issued
  • Officers respond to an average of 61 calls for assistance with animal concerns.

With a combination of Local Fixed-Route, Community Bus, and Paratransit (TOPS) service, Broward County Transit (BCT) has a service area of 410 square miles. In that 410 square miles, per day:

  • there are 538 vehicles in service at peak
  • vehicles are in service 5,885 hours
  • vehicles travel 82,738 miles
  • BCT provides 135,700 average number of trips
  • BCT collects $57,409 on average in cash fares
