Key Initiatives

Targeted Industries Study - The Targeted Industries Study will help the County and its private sector partners determine the future need for workforce development in the County. The evaluation of workforce needs, labor availability, labor characteristics and other market forces impacting labor availability and industry growth will be essential components to the Targeted Industries Study.

Port Everglades Master Plan - This project will update the Port Everglades Master Plan for the next five years, and will incorporate the changing business trends and adjustments as a result of September 11, 2001. In addition, the plan will include 10- and 20-year Vision Plans that are integrated into the five-year Master Plan, and identify opportunities and constraints that could impact the ten- and twenty-year Vision Plans.

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) Master Plan - Leigh Fisher Associates
has been engaged by the County to assist the Aviation Department (BCAD) with defining the Airport Development options to manage the terminal area, support and ancillary facilities within the short and long term (2010 to 2020). This first phase of a two phase program, will determine the key factor to manage growth and impacts as well as the Airport’s financial capacity and the synergy of the airport with its immediate environs, and infrastructure needs.

Convention Center Master Plan -The Convention Center’s annual revenues have consistently exceeded its expenses and it continues to experience unprecedented growth. Because market pressures are making it increasingly difficult to provide Convention Center clients with hotel accommodations, the Board of County Commissioners is creating a Convention Center master plan that includes the development of a headquarters hotel.

Small Business Assistance - The Small Business Development Division promotes the growth of small, minority, and women-owned firms in Broward County. Through the enhancement of the Sheltered Market Program and the anticipated Job Order Contract (JOC) program, Small Business will provide value added services to ensure increased access to County contracts.
