Passengers
More than half a million travelers are expected to fly in and out of Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport during the holiday period running from Wednesday, December 22, through Tuesday, December 28. We anticipate an average of 72,000 passengers a day. Our peak travel day will be Sunday, December 26. These numbers represent approximately a 5 percent increase in passenger travel over the same period last year.

Parking Garages
The parking garages conveniently located next to the terminals offer three options: Daily parking at $15/day, Hourly (Short-Term) Parking at $1 per 20 minutes for a maximum of $36/day, and Valet at $21/day.

Airport Economy Parking
The Airport Economy Parking located west of the airport has 4,012 additional parking spaces at $7.50 a day. Shuttle buses run every 15 minutes to bring passengers to and from the terminals. Miramar, Florida (July 29, 2010) – Today Spirit Airlines is further expanding its network of ultra low fares throughout the country of Colombia as it starts non-stop service from Fort Lauderdale to Barranquilla. This new service marks Spirit’s fifth destination in Colombia and the airline now serves more cities in Colombia than any other U.S. carrier.

Spirit is celebrating the new service to Barranquilla with $9* introductory fares (for U.S. origination, each way based on round-trip purchase) available today through Saturday at www.spiritair.com.

“We are looking forward to liberating even more Colombians from high fares, not only in Barranquilla, but the surrounding cities of the region that are within driving distance,” says Manuel Jaquez, Spirit’s Head - Commercial Latin America. “We are also excited to introduce our customers from North America to even more of Colombia’s beautiful countryside and culture.”

"In addition to low fares, Spirit's opening of a new market offers greater connectivity and provides more opportunities for economic and tourism development for the department and the region," says Eduardo Verano de la Rosa, Governor of the Atlantic Department.

"Spirit is a great opportunity for people in southern Florida and the Eastern United States to get to know Barranquilla, a thriving city that opens its doors to the world with many possibilities for development; this partnership with Spirit provides setting for the exchange of trade, sports, culture and wonderful experiences that both claim in modern societies. Spirit and Barranquilla are undoubtedly a combination that will bring progress and prosperity", says Alejandro Char Chjaljub, Mayor of Barranquilla.

The president of Proexport Nubia Stella Martinez said that every new flight to Colombia improves the chances of integrating with an important market such as the United States.  “This country has always had links with Barranquilla and it is time to strengthen these bonds. The opening of this new route is a commitment of Americans to enjoy the best of Colombia, Barranquilla and the Caribbean through its culture, history, cuisine and most importantly: its people.”

Known as Curramba the Beautiful, Barranquilla is located at the mouth of the Magdalena River on the Caribbean coast of Colombia and boasts a year-round tropical climate. Those hailing from Barranquilla include recording artist Shakira and Boston Red Sox shortstop Edgar Rentería.  Barranquilla's Carnival, celebrated for four days before Ash Wednesday, is broadly recognized as one of the world's largest carnivals. In November 2003, UNESCO proclaimed it as one of 28 different “masterpieces of the oral and intangible heritage of humanity.”

Barranquilla marks the fifth Colombian destination Spirit serves, and the carrier will serve more cities in Colombia than any other U.S. carrier. Spirit became the first ultra low cost airline to service the capital of Bogota, as well as the important tourist destination of Cartagena in 2008, and also added service to Medellin and Armenia in 2009, liberating millions of Colombians from high fares.

As part of the Voluntary Residential Sound Insulation Pilot Program, the Broward County Aviation Department’s consultant team will conduct acoustical testing on the Pilot Program homes Monday, June 7, through Friday, June 11, from approximately 9:30 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Residents located in the Melaleuca Gardens neighborhood and near SW 45 Street in Dania Beach will experience periods of loud “noise” several times each day during the acoustical testing.

This noise is associated with a loudspeaker attached to an amplifier which is emitting “pink noise” or “simulated aircraft noise” at approximately 90 decibels (dB).  This is similar to noise generated by a Boeing 727 aircraft preparing to land or a food blender operating at a distance of three feet.

This testing will be done to determine the existing soundproofing characteristics of homes in the Voluntary Residential Sound Insulation Pilot Program before the enhancements begin.

The goal is to reduce noise impacts by 5 dB of their current levels with an average 45 DNL throughout the home. (DNL is the average sound measurement during a 24 hour period).

Reporters are invited to observe the first day of testing and to videotape/photograph the techniques used to measure the sound. The first home testing is scheduled for Monday, June 7, at 9:30 a.m. Airport officials will be on site until 11 a.m.

Reporters may rendezvous with the Broward County Aviation Department’s Public Information Officer near the intersection of SW 24th Avenue & SW 45th street in the city of Dania Beach. The neighborhood is located immediately west of Interstate 95 on the north side of Griffin Road.

For questions about the testing, please contact the Pilot Program Outreach Center at 954-924-2224.

Spirit Airlines Resumes Service to Port-au-Prince, Haiti

Ultra Low Cost Airline Once Again Liberates Haiti From High Fares

Miramar, Florida (March 4, 2010) – Ultra low cost carrier Spirit Airlines has resumed service to Port-au-Prince, Haiti.  Regular passenger service had been suspended following the massive earthquake that devastated Haiti on January 12, 2010.

“We couldn’t have been more eager to resume service and are thrilled to once again liberate Haiti from high fares,” says President and CEO Ben Baldanza.  “Often times, people use disasters to take advantage of other's misfortune and profit through exploitation.  We are happy to continue offering the ultra low fares that our friends and families in Haiti have come to know and love.”

Spirit currently has a $65.71* one-way, seven-day advance purchase fare on any available future travel dates between Fort Lauderdale and Port-au-Prince available for purchase through March 10, 2010.

Since Spirit Airlines started flying to Haiti in 2007, it has lowered fares over 40 percent, saving Haitians over $10 million.**

Spirit’s highest fares are less than the lowest fares of other airlines flying to Port-au-Prince from South Florida.  For example, Spirit’s maximum fare today after FPT (see attached press release on Fuel Pass Through) is $160.71 each way, which is substantially lower than fares found on another airline’s website of over $480 each way.

Spirit’s daily service departs Fort Lauderdale at 9:45 am and arrives in Port-au-Prince at 11:45 am. The return flight departs Port-au-Prince at 12:45 pm and arrives in Fort Lauderdale at 2:48 pm.

Since the earthquake hit, Spirit has dedicated staff and aircraft to assisting with the humanitarian aid relief efforts for the Haitian community, including donating over $250,000 in flights full of supplies.  In addition, the airline gave 5,000 FREE Spirit miles to everyone who donated at least $5 to the Red Cross, UNICEF or Yéle Haiti (enough miles for a free flight), which resulted in raising over $210,000 for the American Red Cross, UNICEF and Yéle Haiti.  Spirit also pledged $75 to Yéle Haiti for every qualified person who applied for and used its FREE SPIRIT™ MasterCard.

About Spirit Airlines

Spirit Airlines is the largest Ultra Low Cost Carrier (ULCC) in the United States, Latin America and the Caribbean.  As the unbundling leader in the industry, Spirit allows consumers the option of paying only for the features they value without subsidizing the choices of others.  Its all-Airbus fleet, the youngest in the Americas, flies more than 150 daily flights to 40 destinations.  The company is based in South Florida.
