Can I go through security as soon as I arrive?

You must have a boarding pass and your baggage checked-in with your airline before you can go through security. The earliest some airlines will check baggage is 2 to 3 hours prior to the scheduled departure. Contact your airline for check-in times.

After picking up our baggage, can we stay at the airport until we are ready to board our ship?

You may stay at the Airport until you are ready to depart for your cruise. If you are using the cruise ship’s transportation, a cruise line representative will meet you in baggage claim, unless otherwise specified.

Can we leave the Airport during a layover?

Depending on the duration of your layover, you may leave the Airport. Remember to leave enough travel time back to the airport and time to go through the security checkpoint.

Consider renting a car and exploring beautiful South Florida. The Airport’s Rental Car Center is conveniently located across from Terminal 1 with 12 rental car companies. Another option is to take a taxi to the beach, mall, or gambling location. For more information on local attractions, go to the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention and Visitors Bureau web site.

Should I bring a child safety seat if I need transportation to the port?

Yes, you must bring a child saftey seat. The Airport and transportation providers do not provide child safety seats of any type.

Do you provide a service that will take my baggage from the Port to the Airport so I can explore the area?

Some airlines have arrangements with baggage companies to process your baggage directly from your cabin to your airplane. We encourage you to utilize this service. It will allow you more mobility and time, especially for those with departures later in the day. Contact your airline for additional information.

When can I check-in my baggage when returning from a cruise?

The earliest some airlines will check baggage is 2 to 3 hours prior to the scheduled departure.  You may experience longer than normal check-in lines, especially with morning departures. Contact your airline for check-in times. We encourage you to take advantage of the shore excursions offered by your cruise line and avoid arriving at the Airport too early for your flight.

Where can I store my baggage?

Public Baggage Storage is available in all terminals. See the table below. Enjoy exploring the area, go shopping or relax at a nearby beach. You won’t have to worry about taking your luggage with you. For more information, call 954-359-5505.
