Interpersonal Communications For Fundraising August 13-14

Broward Cultural Division and The Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University invites not-for-profit organization members and the cultural community to a two-day workshop, Interpersonal Communication for Fundraising, August 13 & 14, 2009, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the Global Grille Event Center , 301 East Broward Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale.

This two-day advanced course that focuses on communication styles theory, a framework for understanding your own style of communication, and more importantly those of potential donors. Communicating effectively with prospective donors and managing differences in individual communication styles, in a positive way, is essential to fundraising. Interpersonal communication requires relational skills not usually associated with other types of communication, and developing these skills can help fundraisers achieve greater success, and identify and understand constituencies.

For individual attention, class size is limited to 40 participants to allow students the opportunity to have maximum interaction with the instructors and with the other participants. Interpersonal Communication for Fundraising has a workshop fee of $75.

To RSVP for the workshops contact Carrie Reppert Turner, Director, Nonprofit Resource Center, Community Foundation of Broward at 954-761-9503 ext. 102.

For more information, contact Adriane Clarke, grants specialist, Broward Cultural Division - 954-357-7530.

Natural Forces Exhibit Broward County Public Art & Design 2006-2009

Natural Forces: Broward County Public Art & Design 2006 – 2009 will run from September 4 – November 1, 2009 at the Art and Culture Center of Hollywood, 1650 Harrison St. in Hollywood and then head on the road to the Coral Springs Museum of Art in the spring of 2010 - this move made possible by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.

Natural Forces at Work —Public Art and Design 2006 – 2009 will showcase recent works of art within Broward County and is an extensive mixture of collaborative ideas with earth’s natural elements at its center, resulting from a culmination of creative minds focused on the future and bringing awareness through art. The various artworks capture natural phenomenon such as the light on water at sunset (Alison Sky’s Vanishing View) in the dynamic of the constantly changing sky; the refraction of color through glass that forms waves in a harmonious combination of light and shadow (Christopher Janney’s Shadow Boxing); or words engraved into stone as a metaphor for the library which functions to help one ‘see’ in new ways (Steve Gillman & Katherine Keefer’s Written Words), to name of a few of the artistic elements and stories at work in this multi-dimensional exhibition. Additionally, nationally-renowned public artist Michele Oka Doner will give a special presentation on October 14, 2009, 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Art and Culture Center of Hollywood.

We Love Cruisers

The Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) is working on a campaign, “We Love Cruisers.” This is a two-part campaign to provide incentives to cruise passengers to stay longer in the Greater Fort Lauderdale area and visit restaurants and attractions while they are waiting for their transportation both pre-and post-cruise. The Broward Cultural Division collaborated with the CVB to create a special web page to highlight cultural attractions.

If your Broward-based cultural organization would like to offer a special discount, it can be posted onto the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention and Visitors Bureau website. This website link will be promoted to the passengers prior to their departure by the travel agents.

If you wish to participate, please contact Jody Leshinsky at 954-357-7463.
