Broward Cultural Division Wins Silver ADDY Award

Broward County Commission's Cultural Division
won a Silver ADDY® award for the production of CreativeBROWARD 2020 - A plan for economic and cultural development in Broward County.

The Cultural+Planning Group LLC conducted research to craft a 10-year Community Cultural Plan that examines the cultural tapestry of Broward County through its diversity, and connected specifically to the Creative Economy, Cultural Tourism and Public Art & Design.

Made possible by the leadership and support of the Broward County Board of County Commissioners, Broward Cultural Council, Broward Cultural Division, and more than 100 community leaders who served on the Steering Committee and three Task Forces for 18 months, CreativeBROWARD 2020 lays the foundation for Broward's next stage of cultural and economic advancement. It is a shared community vision that comes directly from the citizens of Broward County!

The research involved more than 1,000 community members, and included more than 30 meetings with focus groups and town hall forums; more than 750 citizens interviewed by telephone and more than 350 residents responded to online surveys.

CreativeBROWARD 2020 is Broward's third cultural plan, sponsored by the Board of Commissioners. These successive ten-year plans have targeted the County's investments in effective cultural development based on the community's voice. Achievements include: the Riverwalk Arts and Entertainment District, ArtsParks, the arts incubator at ArtServe, the Cultural Information Center, a cooperative marketing program, the Sailboat Bend Artist Lofts, and the Broward County Historical Commission's new home. Broward County has also developed a nationally-recognized public art program.

Information Sessions on Application Process for Creative Capital Seminar

Broward County Cultural Division invites Broward-resident artists of all disciplines and creative endeavors to attend an informational meeting on one of the following dates - April 6, April 19 and May 5, 2011; to learn about the application process for Creative Capital's transformative seminar- Internet for Artists Weekend Workshop: Using the Internet to Build Community, Promote Your Work and Increase Administrative Effectiveness. Twenty-four Broward County artists will be selected through a Call to Artist process to attend the Creative Capital Seminar in November.

To be considered, Broward artists will be submitting proposals to participate in the seminar by an online application. Participants will be chosen by a competitive review and panel selection process. These information sessions will prepare Broward's performing and media artists, writers, musicians, dancers and visual artists for this opportunity.

Internet for Artists Weekend Workshop: Using the Internet to Build Community, Promote Your Work and Increase Administrative Effectiveness, will be held November 4 - 6, 2011 at Artserve. This interactive workshop will help participants expand their online presence and harness the power of internet tools such as social networking and media sharing sites, e-commerce, promotional websites, and blogs.

Faces of the Arts in Broward County Deadline Extension for Arts Appreciation Challenge

The deadline for the Faces of the Arts in Broward Challenge sponsored by the Cultural Foundation of Broward has been extended to Friday, April 15, 2011. Anyone with a cultural arts experience in Broward County that has moved them or changed their life in a positive way is invited to submit a 30-second or less video, a photograph or an essay of 200 words or less about that experience. Winners will be awarded four tickets to a cultural event in Broward County.

Designed to promote and stimulate public awareness and appreciation of the arts in Broward County, Faces of the Arts in Broward entries will be judged on content, development/organization, relevance to theme and creativity/originality.

Faces of the Arts in Broward Submission Information is available at all Broward County Libraries, many local arts and cultural venues and online at www.culturalfoundationofbroward.org. Submissions may be emailed to faces@culturalfoundationofbroward.org or mailed to Cultural Foundation of Broward c/o Broward Cultural Division, 100 S. Andrews Avenue, 6th Floor, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301.

Winners will be announced in May. Judging will be conducted by the Public Relations and Marketing Committees of the Broward Cultural Council.

35th Annual Carbonell Awards Set for Monday, April 4, 2011 at 7:30 PM

The South Florida community is invited to attend the 35th Annual Carbonell Awards on Monday, April 4, 2011, at 7:30 p.m. in the Amaturo Theater, at Broward Center for the Performing Arts, 201 S.W. 5th Ave., Fort Lauderdale.

Tickets are $25 with $20 tickets available for groups of 10 or more. Tickets are available through the Broward Center’s box office by calling 954-462-0222 or visiting www.browardcenter.org. This must-see award ceremony will feature performances from each of the productions nominated for Best Musical.
