Broward Cultural Division will host two workshops on Wednesday, March 28, 2012, facilitated by Tyrha M. Lindsey, director of public relations, UniWorld Group. We are our World! Getting the Most Out of Your Multicultural Marketing Efforts, will run from 9a.m. - Noon; and We are Our World! Multicultural Fundraising for the Arts, will run from1:30 - 5 p.m, at ArtServe, 1350 E. Sunrise Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, 33304. The workshops are presented in partnership with the Cultural Foundation of Broward.|
We are our World! Getting the Most Out of Your Multicultural Marketing Efforts will introduce participants to the nuances of multicultural marketing and how to be effective in reaching multi-cultural communities in a manner that is welcomed. Participants will also be introduced to: Seven ways to "touch" or reach a consumer through advertising and public relations; Understanding the difference between effective mainstream and grassroots media activities and cost differentials; Understanding the characteristics of grassroots media outlets and/or collaborations to support their marketing efforts; Understanding how to create messaging in advertising and/or public relations campaigns that resonate with communities of color.
We are our World! Multicultural Fundraising for the Arts will introduce participants to the nuances of raising money within multicultural communities to support the arts. Participants will also be introduced to: Creative ways to "invite" multicultural communities to support your organization in a fundraising and/or Board/volunteer capacity; Multicultural organizations that are interested in the arts; Understanding ways to create strategic multicultural collaborations to support your development efforts; Understanding the nuances of financial giving/behaviors for multicultural communities.
Tyrha M. Lindsey has 14 years' experience in public relations and brings a highly diverse communications background that covers multicultural and mainstream public relations, promotion, entertainment and targeted marketing disciplines. Prior to joining UniWorld Group, Inc., Lindsey ran her family's retail and communications agency, L.A.I. Communications. Specializing in promoting women's empowerment and health issues, she created strategic public relations solutions for a number of non-for-profit and corporate institutions including, The Kroger Company, The Institute for Healthcare Disparities at Nassau University Medical Center and ADP, Inc.
Launched in 1991, the Broward Cultural Division's Cooperative Marketing Program provides Broward-based not-for-profit cultural organizations and artists receiving Cultural Division incentives, with reduced advertising rates and a recognizable presence through larger media placements.

African-American Research Library Tenth Anniversary
There is a certain time (the late 1940s) and a certain place (Northwest 5th Avenue in Fort Lauderdale) that have been plucked from the stream of time and preserved for one year in the gallery of the African-American Research Library and Cultural Center (AARLCC), 2650 Sistrunk Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale. This is something to see and celebrate - this is The Fabulous Forties on the Avenue, a unique, interactive exhibit found exclusively at AARLCC.
Why this time and place? Northwest 5th Avenue of the late 1940s was a neighborhood that inspired generations of black families to push through the boundaries of segregation and form bonds that joined them in the pursuit of survival, cultural reformation and entrepreneurship.
Inside this exhibit you can walk down a crowded street filled with stores, a school and even a home. Journey through a historical time line of events and observe farming tools and household objects of the era. Browse the shop windows to see real artifacts on loan from members of the community and then cool off in the Victory Theatre and watch film clips from the era.
The exhibit, which opened last November, will be open through October 2012, the tenth anniversary of AARLCC. Helping showcase the exhibit is a series of events inspired by the theme of the "Fabulous Forties on the Avenue" including:
- March 24 - 1940s Fashion Show
- March 31 - Scholar Series on Black History of the 1940s.
- DATE TBA - 1940s Gospel Fest featuring Songs and Sounds of the Late '40s
- October 20 - Jump Jivin' Anniversary Gala
The Fabulous Forties on the Avenue exhibit is available for viewing during regular library hours seven days a week (from noon to 8 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. every other day of the week). If exhibit doors are closed, please inquire at the reference desk.

The Broward Arts Connection is for you if you want to network with your colleagues, hear about the state of the arts in Broward County, share news about your organization and learn about upcoming opportunities to collaborate with other artists. Broward County Cultural Division applicants and grantees are strongly urged to attend these meetings.
Janet Erlick, Executive Artistic Director of the Fort Lauderdale Children’s Theatre is the Chair of the Broward Arts Connection and artist Wendy Boucher is the Vice Chair.

The For Good Awards
The Community Foundation of Broward has announced the selection of its 2012 For Good Awards winner as Ms. Elizabeth "BJ” Buntrock.

The For Good Awards recognize those who are re-engaging after retirement to make Broward better. The three finalists in this year's selection were Ms. Mari Mennel-Bell, Mr. Charles A. Nicholls and Ms. Elizabeth "BJ” Buntrock. The finalists, all nominees and the winner were honored on February 14, 2012
Mennel-Bell, Nicholls, and Buntrock were selected from more than 70 nominees submitted to a selection committee of community members from across Broward. The For Good Awards include $50,000 in prize money, donated to the charities of the winners’ choice.
BJ Buntrock, founded The Pantry of Broward, a one-stop-shop for seniors on low fixed incomes and grandparents who are raising their grandchildren. The Pantry, through scheduled appointments, provides anything from legal assistance, food, and transportation services to accessibility to affordable medical care. With one in 11 grandparents in South Florida raising their grandchildren, Ms. Buntrock, continues to provide vital services to an ever growing number of Broward residents.
|Residents Invited to Celebrate Local Business|
and the Arts at Biz/Art Festival
The City of Coral Springs, along with the Art and Retail Coalition, are proud to present the first annual BizArt Festival on Sunday, March 4 from Noon to 4 p.m.|
The festival, which will take place in the lot next to City Hall South at 9530 W. Sample Road, will feature live bands, face painting, food trucks, a free trolley to see the new Sculpture on Sample display along Sample Road and much more.
Visitors will have a chance to cast their vote for their favorite Sculpture on Sample art piece. Artists involved in this event come from all over the US: Robert Coon, Michael Chiarello, Michele Dale, Kimber Fiebiger, Hanna Jubran, Claudia Jane Klein, Cecilia Lueza. The Public Art Committee will take the feedback received into consideration when purchasing a piece for permanent display. The event is free and parking will be available at the Financial Plaza and City Hall South.
