Lorna Jordan

Lorna Jordan, public artist

Name:  Lorna Jordan

Title:  Island Garden

Blurring the boundaries between sculpture, ecology, architecture and theater, Lorna Jordan is concerned with the artistic expression of contemporary places. Her multi disciplinary projects use the garden as a framework within which to enhance habitat; develop interested-scaled infrastructure; and create aesthetic environments. With a particular focus on watersheds, Ms. Jordan explores the relationships between our natural infrastructure of creeks, rivers, wetlands, ponds and estuaries and our urban infrastructure.

Ms. Jordan received her B.A. from the University of Virginia, Charlottesville. She has led teams for several award-winning projects of similar budget and scope, including leading the design team for Waterworks Gardens in Renton, Washington. Waterworks Gardens was honored with a Place Design Award from Places Journal and the Environmental Design Research Association.

Most recently, the Broward County Park and Land Bond Public Art Master Plan, Theater of Regeneration was honored with an EDRA/Places 2004 planning award.

Recent works include Connections and Places:A Center City Open Space Strategy for the city of Seattle, a project that addresses open space opportunities and connections in the downtown core. She is also working on a pilot project called Westlake Gardens: Urban Watershed as Urban Flow, which transforms five blocks of Westlake Avenue into a major public space.

Ms. Jordan also created an Arts Master Plan for the Puget Sound Environmental Learning Center, a 255-acre watershed on Bainbridge Island, WA. She is currently leading a design team in the creation and implementation of an Arts Master Plan for the Ventura Harbor Wetlands.
