Through an agreement with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), Broward County is authorized to ensure compliance with the federal asbestos regulations. The asbestos compliance program requires a submittal of a notification for demolition and building renovation projects (described in more detail below) and follow-up inspections by Broward County staff.

Broward County’s Asbestos Code

Broward County’s air quality code Chapter 27, Section 27-180 requires the submittal of the following items at least 10 working days before commencing work on demolition or renovation project that are subject to the asbestos regulations:

• Statement of Responsibilities Regarding Asbestos

• Thorough asbestos survey of the project

UP TO 2 WEEKS FOR ALL OTHER PROJECTS, INCLUDING COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL FACILITIES​, CONDOMINIUMS, TOWNHOUSES WITH 5 OR MORE ATTACHED RESIDENTIAL DWELLING UNITS, ETC.  ​
