“During the Spring of 2005, my father spent seven weeks in two hospitals and a rehabilitation facility due to two minor heart attacks and a fall which required hip replacement surgery. I photographed to pass the time during daily visits and to pay attention to what I was seeing. I wanted to preserve it for later.
It was a difficult time but also a time of heightened family intimacy. I was more attuned to subtleties of my parent’s relationship and our particular family traits. The prints, made months later, help me remember and appreciate. I presume these photographs will resonate with people beyond my family and me. The work is part of a larger body of photographs of my parents. I’ve been photographing them since they moved to Florida five and a half years ago.”
Robert Friedman is a resident of Tamarac, Florida and is the recipient of a $15,000 award from the South Florida Cultural Consortium.
