Artist Micro Credit Program logo

 

The Artist Micro Credit Program is designed to assist Broward-based practicing, professional, and emerging artists, to advance their work and careers. A premise of the program is that “gaps” exist in traditional lending markets and that some creditworthy artists, and their artistic businesses, cannot qualify for financing. This program provides assistance to eligible individual artists and arts-related businesses, who cannot obtain funding from conventional sources.

 

Eligibility Terms
  • EligibilityA professional creative artist working in any discipline and who is a resident of Broward County, FL. The professional artist must be eighteen (18) years or older, who has resided in Broward County for the past twelve (12) months immediately preceding the date of application, and who can provide proof of such residency.
  • The artistic business and where the work is done must be in Broward County.
  • An artist who has not received financial assistance from this program in the last eighteen (18) months immediately preceding the date of application.
  • Completion of the Artist as an Entrepreneur Institute (AEI).

Non-graduates of the Artist as an Entrepreneur Institute applying will pay a higher application processing fee.

An Artist Is Defined As

  • A person with an established, recognized body of original works of art within an artistic discipline created over a sustained period of time, with a demonstrated track record of creation/exhibition/performance or writing, and pursues this work as a means of livelihood and/or a way to achieve the highest level of professional recognition.
  • A person who works in or is skilled in any of the fine arts, including, but not limited to, painting, drawing, sculpture, book art and print-making.
  • A person who creates imaginative works of aesthetic value, including, but not limited to: film, video, digital media works, literature, dance choreography, theater, costume design, photography, architecture and music composition.
  • A person who creates functional art, including, but not limited to, jewelry, rugs, decorative screens and grates, furniture, pottery, toys and quilts.
  • A performer, including, but not limited to, singers, musicians, dancers, actors and performance artists.

Ineligible Applicants

  • A student pursing a degree, or those who engage in artwork as a hobby.
  • An employee of Broward County government, the local arts agency or the South Florida Regional Planning Council (SFRPC).
  • Policy making Board members of the Broward Cultural Council, or the South Florida Regional Planning Council (SFRPC).
