Title: CENTRO DE FORMAÇÃO
Artist: Sarah Morris
Medium: Custom Made Ceramic Tile
Location: Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport
CENTRO DE FORMAÇÃO is a vibrant large scale wall painting of
custom-made ceramic tiles designed by internationally-renowned artist Sarah Morris. Through its
evolving spectrum of color and use of geometric forms, the dynamic work, whose Portuguese title means
"Center of Formation," explores concepts of motion, travel and social space, illustrating the movements
of both pedestrians and flora shifting through time and space, crystallized into color.
Since the mid-1990s, American artist Sarah Morris has
produced a large body of work using both painting and film. In her paintings, she uses colors and geometries that
she associates with a city’s unique aesthetic vocabulary and palette, as well as its character and
multiple histories. Known for her distinct use of color, Morris streamlines a way of perception as much as a
virtual architecture, which is suggested through her titling as well as her use of forms.
Works by the artist are held in international collections,
including Centre Pompidou, Paris; Solomon R.Guggenheim Museum, New York; Museum of Modern Art, New York;
Museum für Moderne Kunst, Frankfurt; Neue Nationalgalerie im Hamburger Bahnhof,
Berlin; Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam.
