Jet Blast Deflector Panel
Due: September 30, 2018
The Broward Cultural Division Public Art & Design Program is seeking to commission a professional artist or team of artists to visually transform a jet blast deflector at Broward County's Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL). The airport's north runway jet blast deflector is a 445 foot long by 5 foot 10 inches high, curved, corrugated metal wall (actual panel height is 8 feet). The wall is a safety device, and its purpose is to redirect high-energy exhaust from airplanes away from the surrounding area. The wall is visible to passengers on airplanes taxing to and from the terminals (arriving and departing). The rear side of the wall, which may or may not be painted, faces interstate I-95 and Perimeter Road. The total budget established for the project is $30,000.
