Michael Spring, Director
Miami-Dade County’s Department of Cultural Affairs, in collaboration with its 15-member volunteer advisory board, the Cultural Affairs Council, develops cultural excellence, diversity and participation throughout Miami-Dade County by strategically creating and promoting opportunities for artists and cultural organizations, and our residents and visitors who are their audiences. With the 15-member volunteer Art in Public Places Trust, the Department improves the quality of public buildings and civic spaces throughout Miami-Dade County with public art.
Programs and services include: competitive grants and investments, combined with customized technical assistance, that build and sustain the non-profit cultural industry by providing direct support for cultural organizations’ development and activities, individual artists’ professional growth, and improvements to cultural facilities; marketing, cultural exchange initiatives, outreach and free or discounted cultural experiences for kids, seniors, and other underserved groups, that develop and promote the community’s excellent artistic offerings, and increase accessibility and attendance; Arts Education and advanced arts integration training for teachers and artists; managing the planning, design and construction of both existing and new cultural facility projects; and commissioning, curating, maintaining and promoting the County’s public art collection.
