Purpose: Constructed of concrete block and stucco in 1926, the U-shaped building displays the Mediterranean Revival style of architecture. The auditorium is housed in a separate building creating a courtyard. In the center of the courtyard is a small, round building that originally was a covered drinking fountain. The school is significant because it served as an educational focus of Oakland Park. Three generations of Oakland Park students have been educated and socialized there including John U. Lloyd, civic leader; J.W. “Bill” Stevens, who served in local county and state government positions; and L. Clayton Nance. This school facility has been and still is the center of educational and cultural activities for Oakland Park.
