DAVID PLETTNER, Co-Founder & Principal
David Plettner brings broad and practical experience as an arts manager, a performing artist, and a lawyer to his consulting practice. A consultant for the past 20 years, he has focused on community cultural planning, services to grantmakers, and organizational capacity building. David is the firm’s lead consultant for community cultural and facilities planning. He is experienced in addressing the underlying political and community issues involved in cultural planning, and is a skilled meeting facilitator. David has consulted with arts grantmakers on program design and evaluation, research, and technical assistance. His practice has also encompassed consultancies in capacity building with arts organizations of nearly all disciplines, sizes and cultural contexts.
David’s current and recent projects include Creative Capital, a ten-year cultural plan for the City of Santa Monica, based on that community’s extraordinary concentration of creative professionals. For the San Diego Foundation and in partnership with the California Alliance for Arts Education, he assessed the state of arts education throughout San Diego County and developed a strategic plan, pARTners in Education, to reintroduce arts education to all schools. For the L.A. Stage Alliance, he is conducting a feasibility study for the creation of an Arts and Business Council in Los Angeles.
David was a Senior Management Consultant at ARTS Inc. in Los Angeles, with Mark Anderson, for six years. He is the Chair of Americans for the Arts’ Cultural Planning Interest Area and the past Co-Chair of the Dance Resource Center of Greater Los Angeles. As a performing artist, David was a dancer in the Bella Lewitzky Dance Company and Loretta Livingston & Dancers, touring throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. He holds a J.D. from the University of North Carolina School of Law and a B.A. in Music from Wesleyan University, and he was a Special Student in Dance at the North Carolina School of the Arts.
