Broward County ’s Beach Renourishment Project (Segment III)
Week ending August 21, 2005

During the past week, Great Lakes Dredge and Dock placed 55,078 cubic yards onto the beach at Hollywood, lengthening the constructed beach by 1,105 feet.  The beach is now constructed from the Broward/Miami-Dade County line at Hallandale Beach to Michigan Street in Hollywood, a distance of approximately 2.8 miles. Beach construction continues to proceed north along Hollywood’s beach.

To date, 49 percent of the linear distance of beach has been completed.  The dredge Liberty Island took fuel and experienced a mechanical problem, events which resulted in an approximately 30-hour delay.

Groin S-3, the southernmost structure at John U. Lloyd Beach State Park, is nearing completion, with only a short section of stem to be finished.  Stone-filled mattress and rock deployment continued on Groin S-2.
