A planning workshop concentrated on affordable housing was held on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 between the Broward County Planning Council, the Broward League of Cities, and the Board of County Commissioners. The purpose of the workshop was to discuss Broward County Land Use Plan (BCLUP) Policy 1.07.07 regarding affordable housing and amendments to the Administrative Rules Document clarifying the implementation of BCLUP Policy 1.07.07.
The proposed administrative rules principally seek to address two (2) issues: 1) to provide minimum guidelines to municipalities for submittal of an affordable housing study to demonstrate compliance with BCLUP Policy 1.07.07, and 2) to provide “default” criteria for those applicants who wish to offer mitigation as part of the Policy amendment process. It is noted that the primary objective of the BCLUP Policy 1.07.07 is for municipalities to prepare an affordable housing study and strategy that is in compliance with the Policy.
As a result of the joint planning workshop, a sub-committee, consisting of three members from each of the workshop’s entities, was established to work through the issues. The newly formed sub-committee will meet in order to reach a consensus on any recommended changes to be proposed to the Administrative Rules Document amendment and BCLUP Policy 1.07.07.
Upcoming meetings include:
- March 10, 9:00 a.m., Staff-Level Workshop for Additional Input, Broward County Governmental Center,
- March 17, 10:00 a.m., Follow-up Joint Meeting, Broward County Governmental Center, Room 302
- March 27, 10:00 a.m., Planning Council Consideration, Broward County Governmental Center, Room 422
- April 22, 2:00 p.m., County Commission Consideration, Broward County Governmental Center, Room 422
