Fort Lauderdale Authority Transforms its Housing

A new generation of housing for the poor and very poor is replacing the city's old public housing projects. The face lift has been dramatic in the past five years, as substandard and antiquated apartments run by the city's housing authority have given way to modern, energy-efficient units. The housing authority has teamed up with Carlisle Development Group and built 662 affordable housing units since 2008 after luring lenders with federal tax credits. The partnership has started construction on another 266 units, and the authority has plans to replace about 300 more. More...
