Worst Case Housing Needs 2011: Report to Congress
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) published “Worst Case Housing Needs 2011: Report to Congress.” HUD has collected in-depth data of very low-income renters who don’t receive government benefits and pay more than half-their income for rent and utilities and/or live in severely inadequate conditions. The findings are very concerning; the demographic has increased 43 percent since 2007 and 69 percent since 2001. HUD utilized statistics collected by the American Housing Survey which found that the 19.27 million very low-income Americans are suffering from falling incomes, lack of government support and rising housing costs.
