The 2014 Annual Fair Housing Month Celebration “Answering the Call,” was held on Friday, April 25, at Signature Grand in Davie, Florida. The event was a collaboration effort of HOPE, Inc., Broward County Housing Finance and Community Development Division and Broward County Human Rights Division.  Keenya Robertson, Esq., the President and CEO of HOPE, Inc., served as the master of ceremonies and welcomed a variety of speakers who addressed fair housing laws and issues, including a panel of two representatives from U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) who discussed the laws surrounding the protection of tenants who require emotional assistance animals.  Highlights of the event also included honorees Commissioner Lois Wexler and Commission Dale Holness receiving awards to honor their participation in Broward County's fair housing policymaking.  The event closed with keynote speaker, Mr. Cardell Cooper, who had served as HUD's Assistant Secretary for Community Planning and Development, sharing his housing related experiences both personally and as a member of government.  Click here to learn more about Fair Housing Act rights.
