Mayor Barbara Sharief highlighted contributions of the County’s Homeless Initiative Partnership (HIP) at a recent County Commission meeting. HIP, a collaboration of more than 18 public-private and faith-based partners is committed to ending homeless in our community by 2015. In the last fiscal year, HIP served up to 3,100 homeless per day and placed 655 homeless in homes. During this cold weather season, the cold weather shelters served 1,800 individuals. For years, the Commission has provided funding for childcare assistance for homeless families, freeing parents to secure employment, seek job training or further their education.
