Destination Fridays Goes to Jamaica

Updated: January 21, 2015   Get ready to experience Jamaica on Friday, February 6th from 6:30 - 9:30PM at the African-American Research Library and Cultural Center, 2650 Sistrunk Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale. Celebrate Bob Marley's 70th birthday and sample authentic Jamaican food while enjoying the event's signature drink, "Nine Mile Punch." Celebrate Black History Month at BCL

Does Your Dog Rule the Roost? 

Updated: January 6, 2014   If the answer to this simple question is yes, now is the time to enroll your four-legged problem child in a Dog Smarts 101 class. The class, hosted by Broward County Animal Care and Adoption and taught by a Certified Professional Dog Trainer, provides pet parents with important information to make dog ownership easier for both the dog and the family. Dog Smarts 101 is open to all residents and is free of charge. Since the class is not a dog training session, no pets are permitted. The following classes are scheduled for 2015:
  • February 10th - Miramar Branch Library, 2050 Civic Center Place, Miramar
  • March 10th - West Regional Library, 8601 W. Broward Blvd., Plantation
  • April 14th -  Miramar Branch Library, 2050 Civic Center Place, Miramar

Nothing Compares to a Sunset Nature Walk 

Updated: December 24, 2014   South Florida is well known for its sunsets. Now you can enjoy the end-of-the-day magic at Miramar Pineland (3600 S. University Drive, Miramar), which will offer twice-monthly Sunset Nature Walks starting on Wednesday, January 7th and Sunday, January 11th, from 5:30 to 7PM. The first installment focuses on "Birds and Their Homes." The fee is $3 per person per walk, plus, on Sundays, the park's regular weekend gate entrance fee of $1.50 per person. Future dates of this program include:
  • February 4th and 8th
  • March 4th and 8th
  • April 8th and 12th
  • May 6th and 10th
  • June 3rd and 7th

2015 Big Read is "To Kill a Mockingbird" 

Updated: December 24, 2014   The Big Read is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts to restore reading to the center of American culture. From January 10 through February 28, our community will celebrate To Kill a Mockingbird with a full calendar of thought-provoking events for children, teens and adults at several Broward County Libraries.  Check out the Big Read special events
