If you live in Coral Springs, Tamarac, Parkland or parts of North Lauderdale, it is my honor to represent you on the Broward County Commission.
Broward County keeps moving forward and I hope that 2013 will continue on that path. Our unemployment numbers are below the State of Florida and national averages, in part because Broward County is putting people to work. We are expanding Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport with a new runway and updated terminals. We are building a new County Courthouse, too. I’m proud to say I led the initiative on both of those projects and construction is underway on both.
The airport runway project will create more than 11,000 new jobs and add millions of dollars into our local economy. Best of all, it will increase the already booming tourism industry in Broward. For 2012, visitors to the Greater Fort Lauderdale area spent over $9 billion dollars – a record.
My overall goal on the County Commission is to make the quality of life for all Broward residents ideal for everyone, from young families to retirees. At the same time, we need to keep our property taxes in check. All of the projects I’ve mentioned that help our economy did not raise local property taxes one cent, an amazing feat. We were able to get through the tough times with our priorities and principles intact.
As times get a little better, Broward County is revisiting some of the tough cuts we had to make. Broward County Parks are now open nearly every day, reopening on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The “Park Closed” signs were replaced with “Growing Not Mowing” as the County allows more areas to return to their natural habitat. Broward’s regional libraries are now open on Sundays and while the smaller libraries around the county are still closed two days each week, the larger libraries are now available every day.
After being elected this past November for another four year term, I plan to make a new Convention Center hotel one of my top priorities, increasing local tourism and putting even more local people back to work.
I have lived in Broward County nearly my entire life and want to see it grow and prosper. I went to school right here in Broward, graduating from Piper High School in Sunrise and NOVA Southeastern University Law School for my law degree. I am also a former State Representative, serving eight years in Tallahassee. My favorite position has been my work on the Broward County Commission. I love local government because local government impacts our lives on a daily basis, unlike the state or federal government. I hope you can get to know me better by meeting me at one of my many public events, reading my newsletters and watching my YouTube videos.
As always, I will do my best to make decisions that will help the people of District 3 and all residents of Broward. I appreciate any constructive and creative suggestions that you have as we move forward together. Please contact me with your questions, concerns, and requests at 954-357-7003, or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. I am always available to you. If you call my office to speak with me, I will return your call. If you email me, I will respond.
Thank you again for your overwhelming support!
