There’s no question that Social Media has certainly changed our lives and the way we communicate with one another. In government, it’s allowed us to be more accessible and transparent in the way that we conduct business. 

I have consistently updated and improved this website to provide with you useful, new and relevant information. New features that I think will be helpful include an area to sign up for e-mail updates from my office that I think you’ll find of interest. You’ll also find links that provide information on a variety of topics like arts and culture, a calendar of things to do, information on Broward County’s ethics code, access to videos about county services and programs, live webcasts of county commission meetings and a link that allows you to find information on volunteer opportunities throughout Broward County. There is also a carousel of links that connect you with information on hurricane preparedness, the home damage assessment program, and our Ready Broward program that provides instant hurricane information using Twitter. 

I encourage you to use check this website often to find new and useful information. It’s one of the best and quickest ways that we can communicate with each other. Of course I always welcome your comments and suggestions.


Through out the year the Broward Commission works on the next fiscal year budget. We’ve held a series of budget workshops and fortunately we’re not planning on any property tax increases or any major cuts in county services this year. In fact, we’re working to re-open some regional libraries on Sunday and no cuts are planned in transit services. That being said, we are working to close an expected $9-million gap in revenue and the budget is far from being finalized. On August 23, the Commission will hold its final budget workshop. The Property Appraiser will also be sending out the Truth-in-Millage rate or TRIM notices this month. The TRIM Notice tells you the taxable value of your property and provides information on proposed millage rates and taxes as estimated by each Broward County taxing authority which includes the County Commission, School Board, Cities, etc. 

On September 13 and September 27, the Broward Commission will hold public hearings on the proposed FY 2012 budget. The meetings begin at 5:01 p.m. in the Commission Chambers at 115 South Andrews Avenue, Room 422 in Fort Lauderdale. This is your chance to comment on the county budget and let us known which county services are most important to you.
