It is that time of year again, as the nation returns to standard time on November 4th. That Sunday we will perform the semi-annual ritual adjusting our time pieces back the one hour, we had advanced them in March. For those with battery powered smoke detectors, we are reminded to swap out the battery with a fresh one.
Sunday, November 11th is Veterans Day. The holiday is observed by County operations on Monday, November 12th. Check the county website at broward.org for a listing of what is open or closed.
As the holiday season approaches, many of us will have visiting grandchildren, if not great-grandchildren. You may want to consider taking them to one of the County’s newest facilities, our award winning Young at Art Museum and Broward County Library that opened in May 2012 and is located at 751 S.W. 121st Avenue in Davie.
The modern 55,000 square foot building houses a free public Broward County Library and the Young at Art Museum which does charge admission.
The library boasts a collection of approximately 30,000 items for patrons of all ages including books, CDs, DVDs, and more. The Young at Art Museum features four permanent galleries: greenscapes, culturescapes, wonderscapes, and artscapes providing patrons of all ages with a thematic artistic journey. Additionally, the museum features artist-in-residence studios, a national traveling exhibition gallery, a teen center, recording studio, a café, and a preschool classroom all there for you to actually try your hands in the arts.
Truly, this museum/library is a family-friendly venue providing active enrichment, education, and entertainment all in one location. For additional information go to the county website at broward.org/library or call direct at 954-357-5437.
Again at this time of year, we hope to have successfully weathered through hurricane season. When it concludes, I would ask you to consider donating your hurricane non-perishable food staples, paper goods, and baby supplies (including disposable diapers) to Broward’s 365 Food Drive. This is a year-long countywide effort to stock Broward’s food banks. Collection boxes are set up at all Broward county buildings, including the downtown Governmental Center, Broward County Libraries and courthouses. The food drive will benefit many agencies that distribute food to the needy. Demand is very high right now, so please give what you can once hurricane season is over.
Let me also take this opportunity to wish you, your families, and friends a very happy and celebratory Thanksgiving.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please call my office at 954-357-7006, or send me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
