23rd Annual Writing Contest for Young Readers

How did an author’s work change your view of the world or yourself? That’s the theme for the 23 rd Annual Writing Contest made possible by the Dollar General Literacy Foundation with support from the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress. Students in grades 4-6, 7-8 and 9-12 may submit their entries starting November 2, 2015. National Winners in each competition level will receive a $1,000 cash award and National Honor Winners in each competition level will receive a $200 cash award. More...

Light Up Your Life

Holiday Fantasy of Lights returns to Tradewinds Park in Coconut Creek under the management of Brandano Displays. The drive-through light extravaganza, now in its eighth year with Brandano, runs from Friday, November 20 through Saturday, January 2, 2016, and is open nightly (including holidays) from 6 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $15 per vehicle and $40 per bus (15+ capacity). Campfire Coziness

Imagine sitting around a campfire, roasting marshmallows to make s’mores after a hayride through a park on a fall evening. The Family Hayride & Campfire Series continues at Quiet Waters and T.Y. (Topeekeegee Yugnee) parks on Friday, November 20th.The program runs from 7 – 9:30PM at Quiet Waters, 6 – 9PM at T.Y., and tickets are $3.50 + sales tax per person (ages 3 and up), which gets you one hayride and one bag of fixings for s’mores.
