Rent a Tent/Tepee Campground at Quiet Waters Park

Looking to get away without going far away? For a fun, affordable getaway close to home, check out Quiet Waters Park in Deerfield Beach, where the campground offers 25 Rent-a-Tent sites and two tepee sites. Tent sites feature a canvas platform tent already set up for you to move in. Each site comes with water and electricity, as well as a grill, picnic table and a fire ring. Tepee sites are similarly equipped. The Family Fun Package offers a two-night stay (Fridays and Saturdays only) for four campers for just $55. The Escape Special (offered Sundays through Thursdays only) offers a one-night stay for four campers for only $20 per site. Two more campers can be added to each package $3 each. Family Fun at Quiet Waters Park

Quiet Waters Park in Deerfield Beach will host a “Splash-tacular” Family Celebration on Friday, June 8, from 6 to 9 p.m. This family-oriented event will include family games, a bounce house and other activities, along with splash time in the park’s Splash Adventure Water Park. Admission fee is $5.50-per-person, advanced ticket purchase is required.

It will be a Yo-Ho-Ho fun time at the “Splash Ahoy” event on Friday, June 15, from 6 to 10 p.m., at Splash Adventure Water Park. Watch a movie, participate in pirate games, get your jump on in a bounce house and much, much more. The cost is $6 per person, advanced ticket purchase is required. Future dates for this event are Fridays, June 29, July 13 and 27, and August 10.

Free Saturday Matinees at AARLCC

To celebrate Juneteenth, which celebrates the end of slavery in the United States, vintage videos will be playing in the “Victory Theater” ― part of the yearlong Fabulous Forties on the Avenue exhibit ― in the African-American Research Library and Cultural Center (AARLCC). Each Saturday in June beginning at 1 p.m., AARLCC will be showcasing such films as:

• Hallelujah
• The Big Sleep
• That’s Black Entertainment
• Emperor Jones

Be a Happy Camper at 4-H Summer Camp

Broward County 4-H invites kids ages 8 to 11 to enjoy a weeklong residential 4-H Summer Camp, June 18-22, at Camp Cloverleaf in Lake Placid. Participants will take part in a variety of activities such as swimming, kayaking, team building, archery, and much more. The camp is not limited to 4-H members, although they get a discount of rate of $225 for the week, while nonmembers pay $250. The fees include transportation, lodging, food, T-shirts, and canteens. It’s All About “Flowers” at June Nature Tots Program

Broward County nature centers will again offer its award-winning Nature Tots program on a monthly basis. Kids, ages 2 to 4, and their parents can join a park naturalist and learn about nature through stories, songs, arts and crafts, and more. Theme and activities vary each month, and preregistration is required. The theme for June is “Flowers.” The program will be held on June 14, at Fern Forest Natrue Center in Coconut Creek and at Secret Woods Nature Center in Dania Beach on June 28. Get Ready To Get Muddy!

The Muddy Shoes Hiking series returns to Secret Woods Nature Center in Dania Beach. This popular series allows participants to weave and scavenge through the woods with a park naturalist, discovering native habitats and searching for wild animals. Closed-toe shoes, a walking stick and drinking water are a must for these off-the-trail hikes, along with a willingness to get wet and muddy. The next hike is scheduled for Sunday,  June 24, from 9:30 a.m. to noon, at a cost of $6 per person. T.Y. Park in Hollywood is now offering art classes, for youth ages 6 to 17, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 to 6:15 p.m. Whether your child likes to paint, build, doodle or draw, instructor Cassandra Anda will inspire creativity with classes in drawing, painting, printmaking, and clay sculpting.

• Arts, Crafts and Confidence classes: Tuesdays, 4 - 5 p.m., ages 6 to 8, and  5:15 - 6:15 p.m., ages 9 - 12. The monthly fee is $46, which includes supplies.
• Artbeat Evolution classes: Thursdays, 4 - 5 p.m., ages 13 - 15, and 5:15 - 6:15 p.m., ages 16 - 17. The monthly fee of $43 also includes supplies.

Hit the Trail at Tradewinds Horse Camp

It’s time to saddle up for the 2012 Tradewinds Horse Camp, for ages 9 through 16, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays starting on June 11 and ending on August 16. Each four-day session includes daily riding instruction. Riders will also learn about riding equipment, tack and general horse care. Other activities include videos, indoor/outdoor games and farm activities. Registration is now open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily at the park office.
