Unveiling of Animatronic Exhibit of AARLCC Founder Sam Morrison

In honor of educational leader and library visionary Samuel F. Morrison, there will be an unveiling of a new permanent exhibit—an animatronic display of his likeness— on Monday, May 4th from 12 noon to 6PM at the African American Research Library and Cultural Center, 2650 Sistrunk Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale. Anne Kolb Nature Center Hosts “People, Places and Things” Exhibit

On May 15th at 11:30AM, The exhibit hall at the Anne Kolb Nature Center, 751 Sheridan Street in Hollywood is hosting a free Gallery Exhibit. The show runs from Monday, May 4th, through Saturday, May 30th. The artwork of Diane Corneau, Nellie Molina, Sandy Schlesinger, and Evelyn Miranda will be featured in a show called "People, Places, and Things." The nature center's exhibit hall is open daily from 9AM to 5PM. There is no charge to view the art exhibit, although there is a per-person fee of $2 (plus tax) to tour the exhibit hall. More…

Help the Port Get Into Shipshape

Port Everglades needs volunteers of all ages and talents to test their creativity and painting skills on Saturday, May 16th, from 9AM - 1PM in a community service project, "Keep Port Everglades Shipshape", to transform recycled petroleum drums into decorative trash and recycling bins that will be used throughout the Port. HIV Health Services Planning Council Hosts Welcome Brunch

On May 15th at 11:30AM, the Broward County HIV Health Services Planning Council (HIPVC) will be hosting a Welcome Brunch at Hispanic Unity, 5811 Johnson St, in Hollywood. This event will focus on the recruitment of new HIVPC members. Attendees will receive valuable information about HIVPC functions, HIV/AIDS health and support services, and member testimonials. ​Workshops on Diabetes Self-Management & Matter of Balance

Two interactive YMCA-sponsored workshops get under way in April at Franklin Park, 2501 Franklin Drive, Fort Lauderdale. Diabetes Self-Management will teach participants how to use diet, exercise and/or medications to manage their diabetes, or if you're not diabetic, how to lower the change of getting the disease. The workshop meets once a week for six weeks, on Wednesdays, 5:30 - 8PM on the following dates:

April 29th, and May 6th and 13th  

Matter of Balance meets on Thursdays from 10AM to noon starting on April 9th and ending on May 28th. Participants will learn to improve their balance, flexibility, and strength to reduce their fall risks at home. This workshop meets on the following dates:
April 23rd, May 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th

Does Your Dog Rule the Roost?

If the answer to this simple question is yes, now is the time to enroll your four-legged problem child in a Dog Smarts 101 class. The class, hosted by Broward County Animal Care and Adoption and taught by a Certified Professional Dog Trainer, provides pet parents with important information to make dog ownership easier for both the dog and the family. Dog Smarts 101 is open to all residents and is free of charge. Since the class is not a dog training session, no pets are permitted. The following classes are scheduled for 2015 from 6-7PM:

Nothing Compares to a Sunset Nature Walk

South Florida is well known for its sunsets. Now you can enjoy the end-of-the-day magic at Miramar Pineland (3600 S. University Drive, Miramar), which will offer twice-monthly Sunset Nature Walks on Wednesdays and Sundays, from 5:30 to 7PM. The fee is $3 per person per walk, plus, on Sundays, the park's regular weekend gate entrance fee of $1.50 per person. Future dates of this program include:
