Free Fast-Trac Business Workshop Series

Entrepreneurs are invited to attend "Listening to Your Business," a free half-day workshop from Fast-Trac, that makes the most of the knowledge you have about your business - and the limited time you have to make it better. Examine your business today, including its strengths, weaknesses and opportunities, identify resources to assist you in reaching your business goals and learn how to examine and respond to challenges and transitions. Nature Center Exhibits ClayArt South Florida

The exhibit hall at the Anne Kolb Nature Center, 751 Sheridan Street, in Hollywood is hosting a free Gallery Exhibit Monday, March 9th, through Monday March 30th, from 9AM - 5PM. The artwork of the members of ClayArt South Florida will be featured. Included in the show will be sculpture as well as both decorative and functional works in ceramic. There will also be an installation of glazed tiles by students from Broward County Schools. More...   

 

Come Dance With Me, Argentina

Destination Fridays returns to the African-American Research Library and Cultural Center, 2650 Sistrunk Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale, on Friday, March 6th from 6:30 - 9:30PM with a focus on Argentina. Tango dancing will highlight the evening with Armando Orzuza and Nuria Martinez showcasing their sizzling moves and offering lessons. Refreshments will be served and sangria is the signature drink. Order your $10 tickets through Eventbrite or pay at the door. 5K on the Runway February 28 at FLL

On Saturday, February 28th, the South Runway at Broward County's Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) will welcome runners supporting the fight against cancer in their community. The Broward County Aviation Department will celebrate the first 5K Run on their new runway which will benefit the American Cancer Society's #1 fundraising event, Relay for Life. Ren Fest Returns to Quiet Waters Park

The Florida Renaissance Festival brings a taste of the Renaissance to Quiet Waters Park in Deerfield Beach, and this year marks its 23rd anniversary. The festival runs from 10 a.m. to sunset for six weekends, from Saturday, February 7th through Sunday, March 15th, plus President’s Day, Monday, February 16th. Admission is $21 for ages 12 and up, $9 for ages 6 to 11, and free for ages 5 and under. Group rates and season passes are also available. The park’s regular weekend and holiday gate entrance fee of $1.50 per person (children 5 and under free) will also be in effect.

Celebrate Black History Month at BCL

Throughout February, Broward County Library (BCL) will celebrate Black History Month with events for all ages held at library locations countywide. Does Your Dog Rule the Roost?

If the answer to this simple question is yes, now is the time to enroll your four-legged problem child in a Dog Smarts 101 class. The class, hosted by Broward County Animal Care and Adoption and taught by a Certified Professional Dog Trainer, provides pet parents with important information to make dog ownership easier for both the dog and the family. Dog Smarts 101 is open to all residents and is free of charge. Since the class is not a dog training session, no pets are permitted. The following classes are scheduled for 2015 from 6-7PM:
  • March 10th - West Regional Library, 8601 W. Broward Blvd., Plantation
  • April 14th -  Miramar Branch Library, 2050 Civic Center Place, Miramar
  • May 12th - West Regional Library, 8601 W. Broward Blvd., Plantation

Nothing Compares to a Sunset Nature Walk

South Florida is well known for its sunsets. Now you can enjoy the end-of-the-day magic at Miramar Pineland (3600 S. University Drive, Miramar), which will offer twice-monthly Sunset Nature Walks on Wednesdays and Sundays, from 5:30 to 7PM. The fee is $3 per person per walk, plus, on Sundays, the park's regular weekend gate entrance fee of $1.50 per person. Future dates of this program include:
  • March 4th and 8th
  • April 8th and 12th
  • May 6th and 10th
  • June 3rd and 7th

2015 Big Read is "To Kill a Mockingbird"

The Big Read is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts to restore reading to the center of American culture.
