More than 100 civic and community leaders representing businesses, nonprofits and government attended the Census 2010 Partners Expo November 5, hosted by the Census 2010 Complete Count Committee and Commissioner Ilene Lieberman at Tree Tops Park in Davie.
George Grandy, Jr. , Regional Director of the U.S. Census Bureau out of Atlanta, congratulated Broward County for being the first county in the United States to organize a Complete Count Committee. The purpose of the local Complete Count Committee is to ensure that all residents are counted in the 2010 Census next April, especially hard-to-enumerate populations that are often missed through traditional promotional methods. A complete count is important because census results determine community funding, as well as legislative representation.

“You have shown remarkable leadership and organization from the beginning,” Grandy said of Broward County's Census team, which includes subcommittees focused in nine different areas of outreach.
The Expo provided a unique opportunity for community partners to network with other Broward County Complete Count Committee subcommittees and their municipality counterparts, find out what is available to promote the Census, share their organization's plans and explore collaborative opportunities.

In addition to Commissioner Lieberman and Grandy, speakers included Margaret Bates, commissioner from Lauderhill and chair of the Countywide Coordination Subcommittee, who spoke on behalf of the Broward League of Cities; and Sandy Harris of the Broward County Legislative Delegation, who read a proclamation in support of the efforts of the upcoming decennial Census.
“This Expo was a great opportunity for those with an interest in promoting the upcoming Census to get together and discuss their plans in an open forum,” said Judy Sarver, Staff Liaison to the Promotions Subcommittee, who planned the event. “The collaboration and cooperation of our governmental partners, nonprofit partners and business partners will help to ensure all Broward residents are counted on April 1, 2010 – National Census Day.”
