The Energy & Sustainability Program is housed in the Environmental Planning and Community Resilience Division under the Environmental Protection and Growth Management Department.
We work with community partners and across County departments to reduce Broward’s carbon footprint by engaging on energy efficiency and conservation, promoting renewable energy, and employing sustainability initiatives. A few of our initiatives include hosting forums for sustainability leaders to share best practices, assessing sustainability through benchmarking, and endorsing green projects within county government.
Conserving energy and increasing energy efficiency not only saves energy and the environment – it will also save money! Energy Sense is the energy information hub for Broward County. Find tips how to make “Energy Sense” at home and at work, or going solar in Broward.

County projects and programs that can meet sustainability criteria may apply to be certified. In order to bear the coveted Seal of Sustainability “GoGreen Footprint” projects and programs must meet the triple bottom line of sustainability: Environment, Economy and Community.

Junior Sustainability Stewards
The new Junior Sustainability Stewards of Broward Program teaches high school students STEM skills while empowering them to advocate for their neighborhoods and solve local environmental issues. Supported by a 2017 Partners for Places Grant and local match provided by the Community Foundation of Broward, this program supports climate/sustainability education and youth leadership in an afterschool program in the Broward Municipal Services District (BMSD), connecting youth residing in a lower income community to a career path in environmental science. Administered by Children's Services Council of Broward, and Broward County Public Schools, with support from the Funders' Network for Smart Growth and Livable Communities and the following Community Foundation of Broward Funds: The Knight Foundation Fund, Loren R. Lyons Fund, Everett H. Metcalf Jr. Unrestricted Fund, General Unrestricted Fund, and Mary Mackenzie Community Impact Fund.
