Library Fast Facts

Broward County’s award-winning Libraries Division is the ninth largest library system in the nation based on the population served. It’s also one of the busiest with more than 9 million walk-in customers visiting our 40 locations every year. The library houses more than 3.4 million items and 2,000 computers for public use and offers hundreds of events and programs to meet the needs of Broward County's diverse community. Visit one of the three District 3 libraries; Northwest Regional in Coral Springs, Tamarac Branch and North Lauderdale Saraniero. If you can’t make it to the library, visit us online at BCL WoW – Broward County Library Without Walls – for free eBooks, music, audiobooks, apps and more.

Broward Strengthens Housing Law

Under new rules approved by the County Commission, if your application for housing is denied by a homeowners’ condo or cooperative association in Broward, you must now receive a written notice explaining the reason for the denial. This must be within 45 days of the filing and if you fill out the application wrong, you must be notified within 15 days of the application date. The new ordinance is designed to further protect Broward County residents from housing discrimination. Find out more about our Human Rights Act here.

Tamarac Jobs

Your Broward County Board of County Commissioners continues to work to better our local economy. Earlier this year, we approved a $500,000 incentive package with funding from the County, State and City to bring a Venezuelan pharmaceutical company to Tamarac. The new company, Unipharma, approved the plan with the help of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance and is investing $50 million dollars into Broward, creating 100 jobs with an average a salary of about $50,000. This facility will be their new, international headquarters. The Tamarac location beat out other cities including Madrid, Spain; Bogota, Colombia; and Atlanta, Georgia.

Tourism is UP in Broward

It’s a “Sunny” forecast for Broward County! For 46 months in a row, hotel occupancy numbers have been up in Greater Fort Lauderdale. By the end of the year, experts predict that Broward County will have had 13 million visitors who spent $10 billion dollars in our local economy!
