Alternative Fuel Vehicles

Thinking about buying an Electric Vehicle?  Broward County is going to make it easier for you to charge up when you’re on the road. The County will be installing 4 Electric Vehicle Charging Stations; at the Young at Art Museum in Davie,  at the Government Center West at Broward Blvd and University Drive, inside the East Garage at the Broward County Courthouse in downtown Fort Lauderdale, and inside the Governmental Center Parking Garage also in downtown Fort Lauderdale. The charging stations should be up and running by the fall.

In more alternative fuel news, the Broward County Commission has given the thumbs up for Broward County Transit to purchase 138 propane vehicles for paratransit services. The vehicles will run cleaner, produce less noise and be more fuel efficient.

Broward Gets AAA Bond Rating
Broward County was awarded its third triple-A rating back in December when Standard & Poor's raised the County's general obligation bonds to AAA from AA+. The move was based on the County's strong economy and "very strong" budget profile. Moody's Investor Service and Fitch Ratings also had previously given the County triple-A ratings. The action affects more than $301 million of outstanding debt and will allow the County to obtain funds for capital expenses at a more competitive interest rate, saving taxpayers tens of thousands of dollars.

Turtle Season is Here
Sea turtle nesting season began March 1 with the peak expected in June and July. These large marine reptiles will be visiting our beaches at night with regularity. Females of three different species of sea turtle come ashore at night, lay their eggs and return to the sea. Nests average 110 eggs! If you are on the beach at night and see a large turtle coming ashore, please observe this phenomenon from a distance. If you wish to participate in organized tours to witness the nesting ritual, contact the Broward County Sea Turtle Conservation Program at (954) 519-1255.
