A Message from Broward County Mayor Barbara Sharief

Early voting is an important process that gives people a chance to get to the polls before Election Day. We all have a responsibility to spread the word about early voting. The more people who vote as soon as possible, the greater chance we have of electing leaders that are truly a reflection of the people. The people that benefit the most from this are the ones that matter the most to our elections. These are the people who have not voted in years, because Election Day just never seemed to line-up with their work schedule. The previous non-voters are going to decide to vote in this election and by spreading the word about early voting we can ensure, and hopefully entice, these once non-voters to get to the polls as soon as possible. The sooner you vote, the better. Get your vote in and encourage all of your friends to vote early as well!

I welcome your comments and want to hear which issues are important to you. Send an email to me at Bsharief@broward.org or call my office at 954-357-7008. Also, check out the Barbara Sharief Facebook page at Facebook.com/barbara.sharief or follow Barbara Sharief at Twitter.com/bestmom39.

Around the District: Christmas in July
Christmas in JulyWe had a great time giving back to the community at the Christmas In July event held at the BB&T Center. Broward County and Kiwanis Divisions 23 and 24 partnered for the Christmas In July project to benefit homeless children of Broward County. They gave almost 2,000 children assistance with clothes, toys, toiletries and other necessities. It is such a worthy cause and I look forward to participating again next year.
All Aboard Florida
All Aboard FloridaI attended the All Aboard Florida press conference and unveiling of their plans for Broward County. All Aboard Florida's train station will generate a $333 million economic impact by 2021 and create 800 jobs in Broward County. We are pleased to have them as community partners. This is a great project and a much needed addition to our transportation infrastructure connecting the neighbors of Miami, Palm Beach, all the way to Orlando.

Did you know you may be eligible to receive a $100 rebate for installing a high efficiency toilet?
The impact of high efficiency toilets has had a huge impact on water conservation over the last 20 years. They have saved enough water to supply the needs of Los Angeles, Chicago and New York for 20 years, according to the Alliance for Water Efficiency. If your toilet uses more than 1.6 gallons of water per flush (gpf), you may be eligible to be paid to save. The immediate savings are impressive, but the long-term benefits, including protecting our Everglades AND saving money, are extraordinary. The municipalities that participate from District 8 are Pembroke Pines, Hallandale Beach, and Miramar by distributing of the free water saving devices. Visit ConservationPays.com or call 1-800-270-9794 for more information.”
