A Message from Broward County Mayor Barbara Sharief

Small Business SeminarThe Office of Economic and Small Business Development and I have extended the Business Loan Seminar Series designed to increase awareness about the State of Florida’s loan programs for the benefit of small businesses. The original six seminars informed attendees about Florida’s participation in the State Small Business Credit Initiative (SSBCI) and its two primary programs – the Florida Venture Capital Program and the Small Business Loan Support Program. The new seminars will be conducted by subject matter experts and will focus on additional funding opportunities with presenters from the Hispanic Business Initiative Fund (HBIF) and MetroBroward Economic Development Corporation.

Susan B. Anthony Salute to Service Breakfast

Susan B Anthony breakfastI was honored to receive the Susan B. Anthony Salute to Service Award for supporting their organization this year. The Susan B. Anthony Center is a treatment center in Pembroke Pines that focuses on mental health and substance abuse services by providing substance abuse treatment and halfway house services. The programs are designed for pregnant/postpartum women and residential beds for clients’ children. It was very powerful and inspiring to hear their stories.

Did you know you may be eligible to receive a $100 rebate for installing a high efficiency toilet?

The impact of high efficiency toilets has had a huge impact on water conservation over the last 20 years. The new toilets have saved enough water to supply the needs of Los Angeles, Chicago and New York for 20 years, according to the Alliance for Water Efficiency. If your toilet uses more than 1.6 gallons of water per flush, you may be eligible to be paid to save. The immediate savings are impressive, but the long-term benefits, including protecting our Everglades AND saving money, are extraordinary. The municipalities that participate from District 8 are Pembroke Pines and Hallandale Beach; Miramar participates in the distribution of the free water saving devices only. Visit ConservationPays.com or call 1-800-270-9794 for more information.”
