Public Safety Radio Replacement

On January 19, 2016, Broward County Administrator Bertha Henry issued the following response documents as follow up to a series of meetings with Fire and Police Chiefs’ Associations on a project to replace the Public Safety Radio System. Radio Replacement Project

Scope of Project: Replace the existing 80MHz trunked radio system with an Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) Project 25 trunked radio system.

Status Update: On May 23, 2017, the Board of County Commissioners approved an agreement between Broward County and Motorola Solutions, Inc. for the replacement of the County’s existing public safety radio system with a new 700MHz APCO Project 25 Phase II system.

County staff continues to work with three municipalities, Hollywood, Tamarac and Parkland, regarding the final tower sites necessary to build out the system.    

Project Completion Timeframe: end of 4th Quarter, 2018 ​​
