GIS Mapping App Takes Aim at Zika

Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division is using a GIS application to combat the Zika virus and the mosquitoes that carry it.

As Mosquito Control inspectors go door-to-door in areas where there are suspected or confirmed Zika cases, they use this application to track visited locations, note if they were granted access to the property, specify what was found and the treatment applied. The tool helps identify areas which may need revisiting because the property couldn’t be accessed, and areas where water samples were sent to the laboratory for larvae testing for the mosquito carrying Zika.

The app also helps inspectors track clusters of potential breeding sites which may require additional treatment by truck or aircraft. More...
