FLL

airport terminalThe Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) is equipped with accommodations for the disabled, including disabled parking spaces and high-top van parking. Curb cuts, ramps, level entrances, elevators and automatic doors make moving through the garages easier, and terminals offer wheelchair-accessible restrooms.

An innovative parking lot entry system records vehicle information via speakerphone, allowing passengers with upper body mobility limitations to access the parking lots without pulling a ticket. Once inside, push-button emergency call boxes are located throughout the garage for assistance. Elevator control panels are lower, and incorporate Braille. Boarding areas for terminal shuttle buses are located close to disabled parking spaces. Shuttle buses are wheelchair-accessible and operate from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week.

Ground transportation options have also been carefully selected to accommodate travelers with special needs. Taxis and wheelchair-accessible vans accommodate the disabled at no additional charge. Advance notice is recommended. Also with advance notice, most car rental companies provide rental cars equipped with hand controls. Public transportation to and from the airport, including Tri-Rail and Broward County Transit, accommodate riders who use wheelchairs.

Passenger services in all four terminals include visual paging monitors for the hearing-impaired. These monitors are located on both levels of the terminals, and it's easy to arrange for a message display through a centrally located Communications Center.

Amplified telephones are located in the ticket lobbies, concourses and baggage claim areas. TTY phones for passengers with hearing and speech impairments are available in each terminal building and the Hibiscus Garage, and at all but two public phone banks. Courtesy phone boards with TTY capability are located in all baggage claim areas. The phone connects callers to the Florida Relay Service and provides Directory Assistance.

Restrooms throughout the airport are ADA-compliant with widened stalls, lowered urinals and more accessible sinks.
