Broward County Achieves Certified 4-STAR Community Rating
Broward County is the first county government in the nation to achieve a four-star certification under the Sustainability Tools For Assessing and Rating (STAR) Communities, recognized for “national excellence” in community sustainability.The County’s Natural Resources Planning and Management Division led the community-wide effort to collect and analyze data from more than 30 different County departments and community partners on more than 500 initiatives. County Observes Sexual Assault Awareness and Child Abuse Prevention Month
Broward County joins the rest of the nation in observing Sexual Assault Awareness and Child Abuse Prevention Month during April. The County’s Nancy J. Cotterman Center advocates for the prevention of sexual violence and child abuse through special events and public education during the observance. County Earns National Planning Award for Climate Change Element
Broward County has received a prestigious National Planning Excellence Award from the American Planning Association (APA) for its strong effort to address climate change. The award was given for Broward County’s Climate Change Element, a coordinated initiative of 82 environmental policies that focuses on local actions for addressing economic, environmental and community impacts of climate change. Among the first dedicated comprehensive plans to focus on climate change in the country, the Climate Change Element provides a planning foundation for Broward County to move forward to address its own challenges while serving as a template for local municipalities and the region to use to advance their climate planning. Network With County Agency Directors at Business Development Workshop
Residents are invited to attend a Business Development Workshop on Thursday, April 17, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Broward County Governmental Center, 115 S. Andrews Avenue, Room 430, Fort Lauderdale. County agency directors from Purchasing, Enterprise Technology Services, Housing Finance and Community Development, Risk Management, and Public Works will meet one-on-one with residents to address their small business questions.
