Photo Focus: College Students Break for Community Service in Broward
During spring break, students from across the country participated in Habitat for Humanity’s Collegiate Challenge in the Washington Park neighborhood of the Broward Municipal Services District, by helping build homes that will make a difference in the lives of future homeowners. New affordable housing is revitalizing the Central County unincorporated area. Commissioners paved the way by conveying 40 lots to 10 nonprofit affordable housing developers, including Habitat for Humanity of Broward, for constructing new single-family homes that will be sold to income eligible homeowners. Silence is Not an Option
Nancy J. Cotterman Center (NJCC), Broward’s only certified 24/7 rape crisis and accredited children’s advocacy center, is stepping-up its “We Believe You!” outreach campaign to emphasize the Center’s longstanding approach of unconditionally believing and supporting victims of sexual assault and child abuse. The launch coincides with the national observance of April as Sexual Assault Awareness and Child Abuse Prevention Month.  Watch for our ads on approximately 350 Broward County Transit buses that can be seen throughout the County. In 2017, more than 4,000 victims came to NJCC and were met by professionals who embraced their stories as a first step in the healing process. Special events and programs this month include Denim Day, Tuesday, April 24th to further educate the public and build support for ending sexual violence and child abuse.
