New County Courthouse Opens
Over the next three months, approximately 1,000 employees with offices in Broward County’s current courthouse will transition to the new 20-story, 714,000-square-foot West Building Judicial Complex. The new energy efficient West Wing at 201 SE Sixth Street, Fort Lauderdale is built on the site of the former judicial parking garage, just west of the old Main Courthouse building it replaces. While public access to some of the State Attorney Office functions begin in January 2017, the building will fully open to the public in March. Learn more at and follow us on Twitter @courtnewsflash.
Library’s New “Fast Lane” Improves Customer Experience
Broward County Library customers can now enjoy the “Fast Lane,” a quick and convenient way to check out items. Instead of waiting in line to pick up holds and check out materials, books, DVDs and CDs can be picked up at new customer-holds shelves and then taken to any of the new Fast Lane checkout stations. Fast Lane is part of Broward County Library’s commitment to provide the community with longer service hours and more open days at library locations without any increase to the library’s budget. The new option also allows library staff to provide more one-on-one assistance in addition to making more materials and resources readily available to customers. More...

FLL Welcomes Direct Flight from Dubai
Emirates Airlines has begun nonstop service from Broward’s Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) to Dubai, marking a new chapter in international air travel between Broward County and the Middle East. County and tourism officials and a host of dignitaries welcomed the Emirates Boeing 777 on Thursday, December 15th. It was also the first time a 777 airplane has landed at FLL. The airport’s central location, its “easy in, easy out” reputation, and a current partnership between Emirates and JetBlue Airways, made FLL attractive to Emirates. FLL is the second airport in Florida to have nonstop service to the Middle East. The Dubai to Fort Lauderdale flight takes 15 hours. Visit
