Community Update Photo Focus:
Broward County has over 3,400 NatureScape yards, the most concentrated number of yards in the nation. NatureScape is about creating Florida-friendly landscapes that conserve water, protect water quality, and create wildlife habitat. Over the last decade, NatureScape Broward and other county-wide conservation initiatives, have reduced total water consumption by 23 percent, or 30 million gallons/day. NatureScape has trained over 300 Habitat Steward volunteers who assist and mentor residents and students with wildlife habitats in their community. These stewards and County staff have provided environmental programs to more than 30,000 Broward students and installed 43 native plant parks on Broward School campuses.
