Photo Focus: Manatee Moment
Manatee season ends this month, but for Brownee, a five-month-old, 200-pound rescued baby manatee, the road to recovery is just beginning. An Environmental Program Manager at Port Everglades spotted the sick calf in distress and along with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission's Manatee Rescue team and Broward Sheriff's Office Marine Patrol, rescued the mammal. Brownie is recuperating at the Miami Seaquarium until next winter and will hopefully be released back at Port Everglades. Go to the Port's Facebook page for pictures of Brownee's rescue.
