Get Involved - Charter Review Commission Needs You
The Broward County Commission encourages constituents interested in serving on the 2015 Charter Review Commission (CRC) to submit an application no later than May 15th. An independent CRC is formed every 10 years to study how government within Broward County should be designed and function to best meet the needs of the people in the next decade. Any proposed changes to the Broward County Charter recommended by the CRC must be voted on by the electorate. Broward Moment

Dr. Von D. Mizell became the area’s first African-American surgeon and civil rights activist, and was instrumental in establishing Provident Hospital, the first hospital for African-Americans in Broward County. He was also a founder of the local chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) in 1938. Considered by many to be one of the most significant African-American figures in the history of Fort Lauderdale and Broward County, Mizell fought tirelessly as a pioneer in confronting the pertinent issues of the day, making momentous strides for African-Americans in medicine, education, politics, law enforcement, housing, and parks and recreation.
