Photo Focus: May is Air Quality Month
Broward County’s air quality directly impacts our quality of life. Behind the scenes, the County’s Pollution Prevention team helps ensure compliance with federal, state and local air regulations by preventing and controlling air emissions from commercial and industrial air pollution sources, monitoring air quality and providing environmental education. Monitoring stations throughout the County measure specific air pollutant levels to determine daily air quality. New Financial Management System Streamlines Accounts Payable Process
Broward County has introduced a new purchasing and financial management system that makes full use of the latest technology, increases transparency and enhances the manner suppliers and customers transact business with the County. The new system consolidates several outdated and independent internal systems, centralizes and streamlines the accounts payable process and results in faster and more efficient processing of supplier payments. Broward Unveils New Spay/Neuter Initiative
Animal Care and Adoption’s new comprehensive spay/neuter initiative, PetFix, includes several spay/neuter programs designed to reduce the number of unwanted pets in our community. Programs include sterilization options for owned dogs and cats, as well as programs for Community Cats (cats who are not socialized, are part of a cat colony, or do not have an owner). Visit More...

Commission Approves New Child Care Licensing Process
County Commissioners recently approved an ordinance that changes the child care licensing process. The new law requires applicants to provide the names of all child care employees and their educational credentials. Broward County’s Child Care Licensing Enforcement Division is responsible for the implementation of the state-mandated licensing of all child care facilities and family child care homes in the County. Children’s BookFest Comes to Main Library
Stories and books come to life at the Children’s Bookfest on May 7th from 10:30AM to 4:30PM at Broward County’s Main Library, 100 S. Andrews Avenue, Fort Lauderdale. This free festival for children and families offers popular storytellers and authors, music and dance performances and plenty of fun for all. Children can participate in a science experiment, create arts and crafts, learn artistic dance and fold origami. The first 1,000 children will get a free book at the Book Giveaway. Visit More...

Paratransit Services Extend to Florida Atlantic University
Travel will get a whole lot easier for disabled students who use Broward County Paratransit bus services to attend classes at Florida Atlantic University (FAU) in Boca Raton. The Broward County Commission voted unanimously last month to extend the current Paratransit route directly to the FAU campus in Palm Beach County.
