Photo Focus: Taking the Bite out of Mosquito Season
Did you know that residents are the first line of defense during mosquito season? Be sure to drain any standing water on your property and keep your doors and windows closed. When outdoors, wear long-sleeved clothing and use a mosquito repellant that contains DEET. Broward’s Mosquito Control Section works closely with the Florida Department of Health and Broward’s 31 municipalities to eliminate mosquitos and their habitats by setting traps, conducting door-to-door back pack spraying and draining standing water where possible. The County Commission recently approved an additional $300,000 for aerial larvicide spraying should it be needed.  As of this date, there are no active Zika Virus investigations and no areas of transmission in Broward. They also approved the purchase of development rights for over four acres of land adjacent to the current Convention Center known as the Portside Yachting Center. Once the design plan is finalized, construction is expected to begin in 2018 with an anticipated opening in 2020. More...
