sun images  Broward County Receives Grant of Nearly $9 Million to Assist Homeless Population

The Broward County Homeless Initiative Partnership has been awarded a grant of nearly $9 million by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) through the 2013 HUD Homeless Continuum of Care (CoC) Program. The grant award funds 18 renewal projects that will fund supportive services, as well as transitional and permanent supportive housing through HUD's housing and shelter plus care programs, all of which help fulfill goals set out in the "A Way Home" plan to end homelessness, approved by the Broward County Board of County Commissioners in August 2013. sun images  Broward County Transit Announces Services Adjustments and Enhancements Effective June 8

Effective on Sunday, June 8, Broward County Transit (BCT) will make service adjustments and enhancements on Routes 2, 10, 11, 28, 36, 81, University Breeze, 95 Express-Miramar Regional Park to Miami Civic Center, 595 Express-Sunrise to Miami/Brickell, 595 Express-Sunrise to Fort Lauderdale, and 595 Express-Westgate Square to Miami Civic Center. The service adjustments and enhancements are in response to passenger input to improve route services, overcrowding, on-time performance and overall service reliability on the routes. sun images  Broward's Homeless Children Need New Clothing and Toiletries for Christmas In July Event

There are only a few weeks left to help Broward County and Kiwanis Divisions 23 and 24 prepare for their Christmas In July project to benefit homeless children of Broward County. Christmas In July activities culminate with a day filled with entertainment, games, food and gifts that provide homeless children, from newborns to age 18, with new clothing, socks, shoes and underwear, reading books and toiletries. School aged children also receive school supplies for the upcoming school year. This is all made possible through the generosity of Broward County residents, companies and County employees. sun images  Broward 100 Educator Workshop Being Offered to Social Studies Teachers

The Broward County Historical Commission, located at the historic West Side Grade School, 301 Harmon (S.W. 13th) Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, will host the Broward 100 Educator Workshop on Tuesday, June 10, 2014, from 9 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Ahead of Broward County's Centennial in 2015, the Broward 100 Educator Workshop is designed to introduce social studies teachers to local history resources that are available in Broward County. Broward County Library will host a free literary event as well as a unique photo exhibit and special book display in honor of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month (LGBT Pride Month). LGBT Pride Month is celebrated each June to honor the 1969 Stonewall riots in Manhattan, a tipping point for the Gay Liberation Movement in the United States. Its purpose is to recognize the impact that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals have had on history locally, nationally and internationally.
