Business Development Workshop Series

The Business Development Workshop Series is a free annual program presented by the Broward County Office of Economic and Small Business Development. This series is designed for all local business owners and entrepreneurs interested in growing the reach of their businesses beyond Broward County. The workshops are FREE and open to the public.

Agency representatives shared details and provided valuable tips on upcoming contracting opportunities. This event was designed for primes, subcontractors, vendors and anyone interested in doing business with Broward County government. Attendees made business-to-business connections and networked with County decision makers from nine agencies.

Attendees to the October 12th workshop also learned about the following:
  • Moss & Associates shared information about the Port Everglades Terminal 25 project which has a 28% CBE Goal. Estimated value $80M. Over $22M in small business participation opportunity!
  • Moss/Kiewit, JV discussed the Southport Turning Notch Expansion and Crane Rail Infrastructure project. This project is designated as a small business participation component project under 49 CFR Section 26.39, and the Broward County Disadvantaged Business Enterprise Program Plan. Estimated value $220M. Firms that meet the SBA Small Business Size Standards by NAICS Industry and DBE firms are eligible to participate.

Getting Your Business Fiscally Fit in 2017* - Registration Closed

Financial literacy is essential to growing a business. Firms will learn how to understand their financial statements and discover ways to identify accounting mistakes that may put their business at risk; how they can protect their assets with a few smart moves; they will learn about state and federal financing programs available and explore non-traditional funding options to see whether they will work for their business. Our panel of experts will help our businesses get in shape by covering a wide range of financial topics and providing answers to questions they didn't know they had.

Doing Business with Parks & Recreation and Other County Agencies - Registration Closed

The workshop featured Parks and Recreation representatives presenting helpful tips and tools about its programs and services, how to do business with Parks and Recreation, and sharing upcoming contracting opportunities that may translate into new opportunities for a small business. Businesses learned how to respond to their solicitations including how they recognize Broward County's small business certifications in their purchasing process. They also learned how to become an approved and registered vendor with Broward County Parks. Following the workshop, attendees made B2B connections and networked with County Parks and Recreation and other County representatives.

Broward County residents, business owners and entrepreneurs were invited to connect and share resources at this innovative first time event. Invited exhibitors included Broward County agencies, Broward County Parks and Recreation registered vendors and more. Attendees met vendors for event needs, received contacts for opportunities with County government, and/or business services such as technical assistance and funding.

What does the Broward County Human Services Department (HSD) look for in a successful proposal? Attendees will receive practical, hands-on insights into using HSD procurement tools and available support services to craft succinct and targeted proposals. This session also includes a panel of NPO experts that will discuss various areas of capacity building, including positioning your NPO, the highs and lows of working with government funders, defining trends that affect an NPO contract performance and establishing an authentic marketing strategy to engage your agency's Board of directors and donors. Who should attend? Representatives of existing NPOs that have never contracted with the Broward County Human Services Department or want to increase future funding should attend.
