Course Description:
This course is designed to enable the non-technical emergency worker to acquire skills in the use of mitigation. The course provides training in how to perform mitigation activities fundamental to reducing and eliminating long-term risk from hazards. It addresses the important roles of the personnel with diverse background who are involved in some manner with mitigation such as: motivator, coordinator, and monitor in the local implementation of the National Mitigation Strategy.
The goals of this course are to:
· Motivate participants to create safer communities by addressing and mitigating hazards.
· Explore the important roles of the emergency program manager in mitigation: Motivator, coordinator, and monitor.
· Enable participants to carry out mitigation responsibilities in accordance with applicable regulations and standards.
NOTE: This course is a Required course in the Advanced Professional Series (APS) certificate program (http://training.fema.gov/emiweb/aps/).
Prerequisite:
It is recommended that participants complete FEMA’s Independent Study IS-393.a: Introduction to Hazard Mitigation, (http://training.fema.gov/EMIWeb/IS/is393A.asp) prior to attendance.
Target Audience:
This course is for anyone who may have a direct or indirect responsibility, occupation, or impact involved with all forms of mitigation. The target training audience for this course includes local and county government emergency program managers, other emergency management staff, and other local government employees responsible for mitigation.
