2023 Local Mitigation Strategy (LMS)

The Broward County Local Mitigation Strategy (LMS) serves as the countywide comprehensive mitigation plan and was approved by the Florida Division of Emergency Management and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The plan, also adopted by the Broward County Board of County Commissioners, has been updated to study, identify, and assess the County’s vulnerability to natural and human-caused hazards. The Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 (DMA 2000) requires all local governments to have a hazard mitigation plan in place to receive mitigation funding from FEMA.

The 2023 LMS plan identifies15 significant hazards of concern that can potentially impact Broward County residents, visitors, businesses and properties. Detailed information regarding risks associated with these hazards can be found in the LMS.
