Broward County Puts Scraps to Good Use

Waste Reduction Committee launched the “Don’t Dispose…Compost!” pilot program, which consists of creating organic materials to use as soil enhancement, is a way of recycling yard and kitchen waste. In just one year, approximately 400 gallons of compostable material was added to compost bins, and the nutrient-rich soil compost was used to fertilize flowers in the Butterfly Garden. As a result of the program’s success, the County has implemented a residential program encouraging composting at home.
